Call for Papers
Scope and Venue
KI 2026 takes place in Bremen, Germany, August 11–14, 2026.
It is the 49th edition of the German Conference on Artificial Intelligence (abbreviated KI for "Künstliche Intelligenz") organized in cooperation with the Fachbereich Künstliche Intelligenz of Gesellschaft für Informatik (GI-SIG AI).
KI is one of the major European AI conferences and traditionally brings together academic and industrial researchers from all areas of AI, providing an ideal venue for exchanging news and research results on theory and applications. The technical program of KI 2026 consists of paper presentations, a poster session, as well as tutorials and workshops.
Topics include all subareas of artificial intelligence comprising foundations as well as applications.
We invite papers written in English and formatted according to the Springer LNCS style, in the following categories:
Original research papers
Original research papers can be submitted either as full technical papers or technical communications. In both cases a short summary (abstract) must be submitted until March 24 April 2, 2026. The deadline for the full paper submission is April 2 April 12, 2026.
Full technical papers (12 pages max., excluding references)
These papers are expected to report on new research that makes a substantial technical contribution to the field. Additional details may be included in an appendix, which, however, will be read at the discretion of the PC.
Technical communications (6 pages max., excluding references)
Technical communications can report on research in progress or other issues of interest to the AI community. Examples of work suitable for technical communication paper submissions include: novel ideas whose scope is not large enough for a full paper; important implementation techniques; novel interesting benchmark problems; short experimental studies; interesting applications that are not yet completely solved or analyzed; position or challenge papers.
Technical communication submissions are especially invited for software demonstrations or PhD work in progress.
Submit Paper
All submissions will be handled via EasyChair, see http://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=ki2026. Papers should be formatted according to the Springer Conference Proceedings template. Please also consider the Instructions for Proceedings Authors, in particular the license-to-publish form. All authors need to conform to the Springer Code of Conduct.
Full papers and technical communications will be subject to single-anonymized peer review based on the standard criteria of relevance, significance of results, originality of ideas, soundness, and quality of the presentation. Papers accepted in this process will be published in the main conference proceedings, published by Springer in the LNAI series and will be presented at the conference. For each accepted paper at least one author must register for the conference and present the contribution. The conference proceedings will be available in both online and printed formats. Printed copies will be accessible until stocks are depleted.
The 3-page abstracts of already accepted papers (see above) will be bundled and included in a preface or appendix section of the conference proceedings.
Extended Abstracts of Accepted Papers Track
Like in previous years, we invite authors of papers that have been recently been accepted at recent editions of major AI conferences such as IJCAI, AAAI, KR, NeurIPS, or premier AI journals like JAIR or JMLR to present their findings the KI community. For this, authors may submit an extended abstract (max. 3 pages excluding references, also in LNCS format). Extended abstracts will undergo a light review based mainly based on the conference venue. We especially invite abstracts of papers from A or A* ranked AI conferences or comparably high-ranked journals.
The final deadline for these summarized resubmissions is May 20, AoE.
Submit Extended Abstract of Previously Published Paper
IJCAI Near Miss Track
Not every good paper gets accepted at premier conferences these days. Therefore, we invite submissions to IJCAI-ECAI 2026 main track that were rejected in the second reviewing phase. This also holds for IJCAI survey track papers that received a minimum of 3 reviews. We will consider such work with sufficiently positive reviews for a KI2026 main track paper, thus treating the paper as if it had originally been submitted to KI.
The submission deadline is May 13 AoE.
Resubmit IJCAI-ECAI 2026 Submission to KI2026
All submissions will be handled via EasyChair, see https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=ki2026. The submitted PDF must encompass:
- the original IJCAI-ECAI 2026 submission (unchanged),
- the unmodified final reviews from IJCAI-ECAI 2026 (including scores and justifications), e.g., as PDF printout of the review webpage,
- the authors' rebuttal, and
- a brief revision plan outlining changes that will be made to fit a camera-ready version into the KI2026 main track format which may require shortening. We encourage adding an updated version following the KI2026 format.
The paper will be reviewed based on the original reviews, only receiving a meta-review. Like standard main track submissions, papers may then be rejected, or accepted as full or as short paper. The same notification and camera-ready deadlines apply. In particular, authors must be aware that for the camera-ready version the main track's LNCS style guide must be followed, including the page limit.
